3-3 (0-3). Previous: . Gamecocks . 12. team. 850.

Last week: Lost to Tennessee Volunteers 45-20

There’s a case to make that South Carolina belongs below Missouri in our SEC Power Rankings. They’re both in the same tier, just above Vanderbilt. However, South Carolina looked better in its loss to Tennessee football, and its other two losses are to the only two remaining undefeated teams in the league.

As a result, South Carolina simply has a better resume than Mizzou. However, this still isn’t a good team right now. They had to squeak by the East Carolina Pirates and the Troy Trojans, their only two FBS wins on the year. That’s not a lot that’s been proven so far.

Shane Beamer is clearly rebuilding the program and has a lot of work to do ahead of him. Last weekend’s loss may have wrecked any chance he has at a bowl, as this team still has to face Texas A&M, Florida, the Auburn Tigers and the Clemson Tigers. They have to win one of those games to go bowling, and it’s hard to find which one they can win.

There’s a chance to right the ship ahead of those games, though, as they get to face Vanderbilt this week. Missouri on Nov. 13 is another key game. Both are winnable, but they can’t afford any slip-ups. Their first order of business has to be getting past Vandy.
