Tennessee football up again in Week 6 SEC Power Rankings
Last week: Lost to Georgia Bulldogs 34-10
This may be a bit excessive of a drop. Despite what Tennessee football has done the past two weeks, Auburn is still having the most successful season of any SEC team with a first-year head coach, although as we’ve mentioned in the past, Bryan Harsin inherited a much better situation than any of the other coaches.
Anyway, there’s no shame in Auburn losing in a blowout to Georgia given how good we know that team to be. Auburn’s drop is not so much about what they did but about what other teams were able to do as they lost that game.
Harsin has another step his program has to take, and that’s making the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry competitive once again. For now, though, this is still a top 25 caliber team and one that could do a lot of impressive things its first year.
We’ll be able to separate teams more in our SEC Power Rankings this week with Auburn’s next game, at Arkansas. They then host Ole Miss, so like Tennessee football, we’re about to find out if they’re pretenders or not. Another test is in the works following Ole Miss, as they have a key matchup with the next team in our power rankings.
