Pick Analysis. Sam Williams. 3. Scouting Report. Senior. player. 841. Defensive lineman

6’4″ 265 pounds

While Keidron Smith is a playmaker all over the field who just isn’t best-suited to dominate Tennessee football, Sam Williams makes rare plays but plays that the Vols are most vulnerable to allowing. We’re talking about sacking the quarterback.

Starring at defensive end, Williams only has 18 tackles, and only eight of them are solo. However, he is tied for the leader in tackles for a loss with five, and all five of them are sacks, a category in which he is the solo team leader. Meanwhile, he has a pass deflection, a fumble recovery for a touchdown and two forced fumbles.

Simply put, Williams is an elite pass-rusher and he makes big plays doing it. The Vols, meanwhile, are prone to giving up lots of sacks. They allowed six last week against the South Carolina Gamecocks, and the 3.33 sacks they allow a game makes them tied for No. 117 in the nation when it comes to protecting the quarterback.

Don’t forget that the Vols are No. 107 in the nation in avoiding fumbles, as they have lost five on the year. Although they haven’t lost one over the past three games, Williams is the one who could rehash those wounds. As a result, avoiding him will be key if UT is going to win.
