Tennessee football: SEC and top 25 picks and bets for Week 7 of 2021
Gambling odds:
- Line: Texas -6
- Over/Under: 60.5
- Moneyline: Texas -200; Oklahoma +175
For the second straight week, we’ve got a Big 12 game to discuss. This one is a bit tricky, as the undefeated and higher-ranked team is the underdog by nearly a touchdown at Darrell K Royal Memorial Stadium. You don’t see that happening everyday.
The Texas Longhorns suffered a heartbreaking loss to the Oklahoma Sooners last week. If not for a quarterback switch, they’d be back in the College Football Playoff race. Still, Steve Sarkisian is doing a good job down there right now, and with his team ranked No. 25 in the AP Poll but unranked in the Coaches Poll, this is his chance to prove his kids belong in the top 25.
On the other side, we’re seeing why Tennessee football wanted to hire Mike Gundy twice. He’s got the Oklahoma State Cowboys, who are ranked No. 12 in both polls, rolling, and this year, they are doing it more with defense than they have in the past. That doesn’t mean his offense can’t get cooking when it needs to, though.
Prediction
Oklahoma State has gotten much better in Big 12 play, beating two straight top 25 teams by double digits. As a result, my biggest pick is against Texas on the spread. Still, the Longhorns have some momentum after playing OU tough last week, so they’ll win a close one at home. OSU will make it ugly enough to hit the under and cover, but Texas wins.
