Tennessee football slightly down again in Week 8 SEC Power Rankings
Last week: Did not play
Bryan Harsin and Auburn may not have wanted a bye this past week. They were rolling beforehand, and Harsin is the biggest threat to Tennessee football head coach Josh Heupel in terms of which first-year head coach has the fastest-rising profile. To be fair, Harsin walked into a better situation, but he’s made the most of it.
There’s no shame in Auburn’s two losses. They fell to a Penn State Nittany Lions team that would still be undefeated if not for a quarterback injury, and their other loss is to Georgia, universally recognized as the best team in the country.
On the other side, Auburn’s wins are pretty impressive. Beating Arkansas is a big deal, and LSU is still difficult to beat on the road. This team truly is living up to the hype it generated early in the year with back to back 60-point games.
Now, though, Auburn has to get back to the grind in the middle of a gauntlet. Ole Miss at home is next. They get Mississippi State and South Carolina in November, both of which should be wins, but they also have Alabama on the bowl in the noted Iron Bowl. Seven wins seems likely. Eight is on the table. A game at the next team in these rankings could get them to nine wins.
