Tennessee football at Kentucky: 10 keys to the game for Vols and Wildcats
2. Can Kentucky limit its turnovers?
When it comes to penalties, Tennessee football started off awful but improved to now just being inconsistent. On turnovers, the Vols went from starting off awful to being one of the best in the nation. They had five turnovers their first two games and no takeaways. Since that time, they have had 11 takeaways and just three turnovers.
Kentucky, meanwhile, has been one of the worst teams at taking care of the ball. They are dead last in turnover margin on the year at minus-12 and in turnover margin per game at minus -150. It goes both ways, as they don’t get any takeaways, but they commit tons of turnovers, giving away 16 on the season.
The strength for UT is interceptions, as the Vols have come away with eight on the year. They were the first team to intercept Matt Corral all season. However, they have also forced fumbles against Florida, South Carolina and Alabama.
Kentucky is bad on both fronts. They have lost seven fumbles on the year and thrown nine interceptions. This game will really come down to their ability to take care of the ball. If they limit such mistakes, they should win. Simply put, they can’t get dominated on this front.
