Last week: Defeated Liberty Flames 27-14

They are banged up because of the fact that their bye was so early. However, Ole Miss was able to do what Tennessee football couldn’t do against Ole Miss, which is hold off its former coach. Hugh Freeze took a very good Liberty Flames team into Oxford, Miss., and despite him and Lane Kiffin being two brilliant offensive minds, the defense was the story of this game.

In recent weeks, with Matt Corral playing hurt and so many weapons out, Kiffin has needed his defense to step up, and that’s exactly what happened. It honestly started with that defensive stand to beat Tennessee football 31-26 back in October.

Say what you want about Ole Miss’ struggles in this game, but it followed an 11-point loss to Auburn, and they actually covered the spread. As a result, they keep finding ways to win, and they could still win the West. Their best path is Auburn losing to Mississippi State and then them and Arkansas both beating Alabama.

Okay, that’s insanely unlikely, but it’s possible. Ole Miss would then have to beat Texas A&M, Vanderbilt and Mississippi State to close out the season. With that slate, eight wins is guaranteed, but they should shoot for at least nine in hopes of winning one of the other two games.
