If you take away two questionable calls, Mike Leach has Mississippi State at 8-2 and 5-2 in the SEC. Heck, they are three plays away from being 9-1, 6-1 in the SEC and still in the running to win the SEC West. Leach’s offense is finally taking off, and the only reason Tennessee football fans aren’t thinking about what could have been is due to what Josh Heupel has done for them.

Either way, MSU has a quality resume now with wins over the N.C. State Wolfpack to go along with Texas A&M, Kentucky and Auburn. They have won three of their last four games and should be on a four-game winning streak. This is a top 25 caliber team.

MSU definitely belongs in the top half of our SEC Power Rankings, and they could further climb these standings before the season comes to an end in two weeks. Leach’s program is finally rolling, and the rest of the league had better watch out.

Last weekend’s win effectively guaranteed a winning season for this team, as it will host the Tennessee State Tigers this week. Then comes what could be one of the most exciting Egg Bowls in years, and MSU gets that game at home, so they could easily finish 8-4. A top 25 season is on the table in Leach’s first year.
