Tennessee football rooting guide for 2021 Conference Championship games
1. SEC Championship
Alabama Crimson Tide over Georgia Bulldogs
This may be the hardest thing Tennessee football fans have to do. However, the best way to make sure that three SEC teams get into the New Years Six bowl games with four on the table is for the Alabama Crimson Tide to beat the Georgia Bulldogs.
At 11-1, Alabama is No. 3 in the College Football Playoff rankings. They are No. 4 in the AP Poll and No. 2 in the Coaches Poll. The point is, if they win, they are in. Meanwhile, Georgia is No. 1 across the board as the only 12-0 Power Five team out there, so win or lose, they are going to be in the CFP on Sunday.
Now, if Alabama and Georgia are both in, then the Sugar Bowl has to add that third SEC team because of the tie-ins. The Ole Miss Rebels will likely get that bid. Meanwhile, the Arkansas Razorbacks and Texas A&M Aggies are 8-4, and the Kentucky Wildcats are 9-3. If a series of upsets happen this weekend, one of them could squeak into a New Years Six game.
Simply put, Alabama losing means it’s possible only two SEC teams reach New Years Six games. Them winning opens the door for four getting in and guarantees three getting in. Again, bowl positioning is most important for Tennessee football, and this game impacts that more directly than any other, so the Vols need Bama to win.
