Tennessee football rooting guide for 2021 Conference Championship games
4. Pac-12 Championship
Oregon Ducks over Utah Utes
We’re back to potential bowl berths. The Utah Utes have already beaten the Oregon Ducks, and that knocked them out of College Football Playoff contention. However, Oregon is still 10-2 and ranked No. 10 across the board. That means if they lose this game, they still have a shot at a New Years Six bowl, taking a spot away from an SEC team.
Meanwhile, if Utah is 9-3 and ranked No. 17 in the College Football Playoff and Coaches Polls. They are No. 14 in the AP Poll. As a result, if they lose, there is no way they are making a New Years Six bowl, as that’ll be four losses.
One less team in such a bowl to potentially add an SEC team already helps Tennessee football. However, this is the first one that could legitimately help them in terms of bowl positioning and a top 25 finish.
That’s because if Utah loses this game, then there’s the chance that they finish with five losses depending on what happens in their bowl game. If they finish 9-5 and on a two-game losing streak while UT wins its bowl to finish 8-5 on a three-game winning streak, there’s the off-chance but a real chance the Vols finish ahead of them.
