Tennessee football moves back up SEC Power Rankings with win at LSU
Defeated Arkansas Razorbacks 40-17
Back to back 40-point games and blowout wins over SEC West foes prove Mike Leach really has Mississippi State rolling. This was why Tennessee football wanted him all those years ago, although nobody on Rocky Top has any regrets now with Josh Heupel’s offense taking off as well. Anyway, MSU is looking great.
This is why we had to ignore circular logic. How can we put LSU above Mississippi State given what happened last weekend? It’s not possible despite MSU losing to them 31-16 on the road. What the Bulldogs have done the past two weeks, dominating Arkansas and Texas A&M, has been beyond impressive.
If our power rankings prioritized head to head for as long as they could, they’d look like this before the undefeated teams:
14. Vanderbilt
13. Missouri
12. Auburn
11. Florida
10. Kentucky
9. South Carolina
8. Arkansas
7. Texas A&M
6. Mississippi State
5. LSU
Sorry, but that just wouldn’t make sense given this past weekend. Anyway, MSU is far and away the best of the non-undefeated teams right now, so they belong at the top of the list among them. Now things get fun for Leach and co. in October.
Up next is a trip to Kentucky. Then they have a trip to Alabama. In November, they get to host Auburn and the East Tennessee State Buccaneers. However, they also have Georgia, and there’s still that trip at the end of the season to the next team in these rankings.
