Former Oklahoma hitting coach Aric Thomas has joined Tennessee baseball coach Dave Serrano’s staff as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.

Serrano announced the move on Sunday night on Twitter, calling Thomas a “great recruiter, coach and even better person,” who has had “experience and success in his career.”

Ariel Massengale lent a hand Monday to a record performance by the U.S. women’s team at the World University Games.

The Tennessee junior point guard came off the bench to contribute three assists to an impressive total of 34 by the U.S. in a 120-32 victory over Mali to open preliminary-round play in Kazan, Russia.

The assists amounted to a U.S. World University Games record. The previous high was 27 against Taiwan in 2011.
