If there is one word I would use to describe Butch Jones and his recruiting, it would be consistency.

The Vols have not went more than three weeks without a commitment since offensive lineman Coleman Thomas committed to the Vols on March 9.

Tennessee, who received a commitment from junior college wide receiver Eric Lauderdale on Sunday, got another commitment on Tuesday when four-star safety Cortez McDowell committed to play for the Vols.

There were rumblings in April that McDowell (Locust Grove, GA) would commit to Tennessee at the Orange & White game. While that never came to pass, most recruiting analysts did not waiver in their belief that McDowell would commit to the Vols.

The majority of 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions, including my own, predicted that McDowell would commit to Tennessee.

247Sports rates McDowell, 6’1″/205,  as the ninth overall player in the state of Georgia and the 12th best safety in the nation.

McDowell also has notable offers from: Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, Ohio State and West Virginia, among others.

The commitment of Cortez McDowell lifted the Vols to Second in 247Sports 2014 team rankings.

Landing McDowell is huge for the Vols. It keeps their momentum going as we head into the dog days of summer. It also continues to show that Butch Jones is no fluke and is showing no signs up letting up anytime soon.
