Over 86,000 were in attendance to see the University of Tennessee defeat Western Kentucky on Saturday afternoon. One of those in attendance was the highly discussed JUCO LB Chris Weatherd.

Weatherd, out of Trinity Valley Community College, is the top JUCO LB in the country and has been one of the most discussed recruits for the 2014 class. He committed to UT in May and has collected several more offers from some of the top football programs in the country, which has sparked talk among Vol fans on if he will follow through with his commitment to Butch Jones.

Relax Vol Nation.

Chris will be a Volunteer when he is officially allowed to sign.

I was able to catch up with Chris over the past few days since his visit and he was incredibly impressed with what he has seen. In July, he was gracious enough to give us an insight to his first visit to UT.  Well…he has done it again for us. Weatherd wanted to share his official visit experience with Vol Nation, so he has provided another journal entry for us.  Enjoy, Vol Fans!

Friday

It all started on Friday morning when my mother and I arrived to the airport.  We were both very excited. There were a lot of people at the airport who already knew who I was. I was stoked. Dozens of people asked me for autographs and I gladly gave it to them!

Our flight got delayed which kind of a setback, as I became even more anxious to get to Knoxville.  We finally got on the plane and I wasn’t expecting it to be so cramped, but I had to deal with it. We arrived to the airport in Knoxville after a bumpy flight and as we were walking, my mom and I got stopped numerous times because once again people recognized who I was. We made our way through all of the people that knew me and we met our host for the weekend.

Later on that day, I got to eat with the team and see all of the coaches, which was just a phenomenal deal.  I had never experienced anything like that in my life! I went to chapel with them and walk through… the whole shebang!

That night, I got to rest my body from being cramped on the plane and I was getting mentally prepared for Saturday just as if I was playing in the game. By the way, the Hilton hotel was phenomenal!

Saturday

Mom and I woke up Saturday morning ready to go eat breakfast and get to the Vol Walk. It was an amazing sight.  I have never seen anything like that before! All of the fans lining up to watch the the players walk into the stadium was incredible. After that it was time to head into the stadium.  Seeing the Power T being formed by the band was just absolutely crazy!!  Watching the game was awesome, especially when the defense was capitalizing on almost every possession! I really enjoyed the game and the electrifying crowd even though it wasn’t quite at full capacity.

After the game, my mom and I got to go back and get some rest in the hotel before dinner at Calhoun’s. As we arrived to Calhoun’s, my stomach was growling and I couldn’t wait to eat! The food was very delicious and I will be going back there once I’m enrolled in January.

Following dinner, I met with Coach Jones at his house which was unbelievable. His house was so gigantic and had so many features, it was crazy! I got to sign the big wall in his basement which was basically a solid commitment from me. I felt special and once I signed it I knew this was home! The hospitality that the Jones family gave was great!

After that, I went to hang out with AJ Johnson, Curt Maggitt, and Dontavis Sapp! We all sat down and talked football for a bit and I got some news that Maggitt is coming back and AJ possibly, which would be great for the lin backer core next season. We had a great time!

Sunday

Sunday morning was great because I was basically in the complex all day, hanging with coaches and talking to Coach Thigpen about where I fit in and helping him out with some Oregon formations and what-not.  While I was doing this, mom was getting all of the academic information that she needed.

Before I left, I met with Coach Jones and sealed the deal by telling him that I’m not going anywhere else… which is the truth! I love being a Vol!

This trip was amazing and mom loved every single bit of it. I looked mom and asked her what did she thought? She told me with one sentence. “This is home.”  I simply told her that I will be wearing 42!
