Just because the Tennessee Volunteers currently have 31 commits and only plan on signing 30 players, don’t think they’ve stopped recruiting.

Highly coveted 5-star outside linebacker Clifton Garrett (Plainfield, IL) released his top four schools last night and the Vols were among them.

Garrett is a 6’2″/228 lb OLB that 247Sports rates as the top OLB in the nation, as well as the top player in the state of Illinois.

All 38 247Sports crystal ball predictions have Garrett committing to LSU.

While that’s very likely, it says a lot about the Vols and their coaching staff to even be in Garrett’s top four.

The Vols have two current 2014 commits from the state of Illinois — 4 star TE Daniel Helm and 4-star DE Dewayne Hendrix.

Garrett took his official visit to Tennessee on October 5 for the Georgia game. Even though the Vols lost that game, the loudness of Neyland made an impression on the talented linebacker.

The Vols might not be the front runner for Garrett’s commitment right now, but they’ve got three months to close the gap.
