Tennessee Basketball: Tariq Owens Commits To Vols

Tennessee head coach Donnie Tyndall received another huge commitment on Wednesday with Tariq Owens’ commitment to the Vols.

Owens is a 6’9″/180 lb three-star power forward from Laurel, MD (St. Vincent Palloti). 247Sports rates him as the eighth best player in the state of Maryland and the 42nd best power forward in the nation.

The Maryland native chose Tennessee over offers from Temple, UT-Martin and several others. All nine 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions had Owens committing to Tennessee

Owens will help to fill a big need for the Vols that is present due to the loss of big men Jarnell Stokes and Jeronne Maymon. At 180 lbs, Owens will obviously need to add some weight, as he’s a bit light for a power forward.

Here’s a look at the Vols’ 2014 recruiting class.
