Vols Make Five-Star’s Top Five

Five-star 2015 defensive tackle Shy Tuttle tweeted his top five schools on Monday afternoon and the Tennessee Volunteers are one of his finalists.

The Vols made the cut along with four ACC teams.

Tuttle is a 6’3″/315 lb defensive tackle from Lexington, NC (North Davidson) that 247Sports rates as the top overall player in the state of North Carolina and the fourth best defensive tackle in the nation.

Tuttle, as you can imagine, has some pretty impressive offers. He eliminated some of the top schools in the nation on Monday, including Alabama, Texas, Florida State, Michigan, Notre Dame and Ohio State.

The North Carolina native has offers from all of the aforementioned schools.

It says a lot for Butch Jones and the Vols that they are the only SEC team among Tuttle’s top five.

I still think it’s very likely that Tuttle ends up at North Carolina or Clemson, but the Vols have made it this far so they definitely have a chance.

And Tuttle is a player the Vols need. They’ve added some depth along the defensive line through recruiting, but that depth is still a year or two away. Tuttle could step on the field in 2015 and contribute immediately.
