Vols Recruiting: Tennessee In Kyle Phillips’ Top Five

On April 7, four-star defensive end Kyle Phillips released his top ten schools and the Vols were among those who made the cut.

Four months later, almost to the day, the Nashville, TN (Hillsboro) native released his top five schools and once again the Volunteers were among Phillips’ favorite schools.

Phillips is a 6’4″/260 lb strong side defensive end that runs the 40 in 4.61 seconds.

247Sports rates him as the third best player in the state of Tennessee and the fifth best strong side defensive end in the nation.

Phillips has notable offers from Alabama, LSU, Michigan State, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt, among many others.

If the Vols land Kyle Phillips, it would give them a ridiculous haul of defensive lineman in their 2015 recruiting class (especially if they get five-star stud defensive tackle Shy Tuttle).

Butch Jones has done a great job evaluating the biggest weaknesses on the Volunteers’ roster and then promptly addressing those needs.

Positions like wide receiver and defensive line were a major weakness when Jones was hired. Those two positions are now set to be two of Tennessee’s strongest.
