The Vols basketball team received some good news late Wednesday night when it was announced Memphis transfer Dominic Woodson will be joining the Vols for the upcoming 2014-15 season.

Woodson fills a huge hole for the Vols, and boy, does he fill it.

Woodson measures in at 6-10, 300 lbs and he gives the Vols a much-needed presence down in the paint.

After the Vols received the news that Florida Gulf Coast transfer Eric McKnight would not be allowed to transfer to Tennessee, the Vols were left without an experienced big man on the roster. Though Woodson played sparingly as a freshman, he brings with him loads of potential.

Woodson was rated a 4-star forward in the class of 2014 and the No. 74 overall player in the country according to 247Sports. In 20 games for the Memphis Tigers, Woodson averaged 2.5 points and 1.9 rebounds a game.

According to 247Sports writer Wes Rucker, Woodson brings some minor baggage with him. While Woodson was never arrested, he was held out of a few games for “team rules” violations, and he allegedly was involved in an altercation with a Tigers football player.

Despite those shortcomings, Woodson showed positives as well, earning a spot on the Tiger 3.0 Club for having a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Woodson has three years of eligibility remaining, and he looks to play immediately this upcoming season. We will have more news as it comes along.
