Two Vols Named To Coaches’ Pre-Season All-SEC Teams
By Zach Ragan
The 2014 Pre-Season Coaches All-SEC teams were released on Thursday and two Vols were among the players spread across the three teams.
Senior linebacker A.J. Johnson was named to the first team, while sophomore wide receiver Marquez North found his way onto to the third team.
Johnson, who elected to return for his senior season instead of declaring for the NFL Draft, was a 2013 AP and Coaches All-SEC first team selection.
The Georgia native has led the Vols in tackles the past two season. He led the SEC in tackles in 2012.
North Carolina native Marquez North was a Athlon Sports freshman All-American in 2013. He also led the Volunteers in receiving yards last season.
Sophomore defensive back Cam Sutton was a notable snub.
Sutton made a splash in 2013, as he was easily the Vols’ best player in the secondary. He should only improve in his second season. I believe he will undoubtedly be on most of these lists by season’s end.
Here’s the entire list of the Pre-Season Coaches’ All-SEC Teams.
