Vols And Oklahoma Set For Primetime National Broadcast

The Tennessee Volunteers are off to a 2-0 start, but the good times could be coming to an end as they travel to Norman, OK this Saturday to take on the #4 Oklahoma Sooners.

The game will be broadcast nationally on ABC.

This will easily be the Vols’ biggest test of the year so far and arguably their biggest test of the season. Oklahoma is one of the teams that a lot of analysts predict will make the inaugural four-team College Football Playoff.

It’s the second straight season that Tennessee will face a top five non-conference team on the road within the first three weeks of the season (@ Oregon in 2013).

The Sooners should cruise to victory against the Vols on Saturday night. But that doesn’t mean the game will be a total loss for the Volunteers. Tennessee will be able to evaluate where they are against some of the top competition in the nation.

Butch Jones will of course take his team into Norman with the expectation to win, but these are two programs that are in totally different places right now. Tennessee’s on the way there, but they still have a ways to go.

Gameday?

There were rumblings that Norman might be the site of College Gameday on Saturday. That doesn’t appear to be the case. The Gameday set will be heading back to Fargo, ND for the second straight season.

It was a unique idea last season to head to Fargo, but it’s not the right move this year. Gameday should be in either Columbia, SC for the Georgia-South Carolina game or Norman for the non-conference showdown between Tennessee and Oklahoma.
