Vols WR Von Pearson Ruled Out For Georgia Game

The Vols’ bye week came at the perfect time this season, but it won’t matter for injured Vols wide receiver Von Pearson.

Butch Jones has already ruled out the former JuCo star for the Vols’ next game against Georgia (Sept 27). Jones made the announcement during “Vol calls” on Wednesday night.

Pearson, who missed the Vols’ game against Oklahoma last week, was one of Justin Worley’s top receiving targets over the first two games of the season. In fact, he had four receptions for 71 yards in the first quarter of the Vols’ win against Arkansas State.

Tennessee will undoubtedly miss the production and playmaking ability of Pearson against Georgia.

In addition to Pearson being out, the Volunteers could also be without sophomore wide receiver Josh Smith, who is currently considered “day-to-day”.

True freshman Josh Malone will see more action against Georgia, with Tennessee’s sudden lack of depth at the wide receiver position.

The Vols are hopeful they will get Pearson back from a high ankle sprain for their game against Florida on October 4.

Tennessee hasn’t beat Florida since 2004. The matchup between the two teams in 2014 will be one of the better chances the Vols’ have had to knock off the Gators.
