The start of SEC Media Days and more updates on the Olympics headline the Tennessee Vols news on Rocky Top for Monday, July 11.


It has been an incredibly rough weekend following the horrific week that occurred, so here’s to hoping this week is better.

And as an escape, sports is here. In fact, it’s a very exciting time for sports in general.

The Olympics are getting closer, which will be international entertainment for everybody. But most exciting to many Americans is the start of SEC Media Days.

The de facto kickoff to coverage of the college football season is finally here! And since every team is still undefeated, fans across the country are equally as excited.

So, to keep the excitement, that’s where we begin our coverage for today on Rocky Top.

"The opening of preseason college football practice is still more than three weeks away, and there are still more than 50 days separating Tennessee from its season opener against Appalachian State on Sept. 1.However, SEC Football Media Days begins Monday at the Hyatt Regency-Wynfrey Hotel in Hoover, Ala., which marks the formal return of college football to the national sports discourse."

Another Vol earns a spot in the Olympics – UTSports

"Tennessee’s Christian Coleman has earned a spot on Team USA for the 2016 Rio Olympics as a member of the men’s 4×100 relay, as announced by USA Track and Field on Sunday.Coleman was outstanding in the men’s 100 meters at the 2016 U.S. Trials. He ran at a world-class level, clocking the second-fastest time in the first round at 9.96 (+2.4) and the third-fastest time in the semifinals with a PR 9.95 (+1.7). Coleman finished sixth in the 100-meter final with a time of 10.03 (+1.6)."

Utah State transfer cleared to play for Tennessee basketball – Grant Ramey of 247Sports

"The fifth-year senior, a graduate-transfer forward from Utah State, said via Twitter earlier this week that he has been cleared by the NCAA.“Got approved by the NCAA. Now time to get ready for the season. It’s go time now. #GBO,” Evans tweeted.Tennessee announced that Evans is enrolled in the second session of summer school, which began Thursday. He has been added to the official roster, listed at 6-foot-9, 230 pounds and wearing jersey No. 21."
