Former Tennessee football offensive tackle Kyler Kerbyson could join Tom Brady’s New England Patriots this NFL year. The Pats signed the Volunteers lineman.

The Tennessee Vols did not have anybody drafted, but they certainly had a lot of players get signed to very good situations, including Marquez North, Brian Randolph, Curt Maggitt, and Pig Howard.

Now, Kyler Kerbyson can be added to the list. He signed with the Patriots on Friday afternoon, easily the best landing spot possible for him to potentially make a 53-man roster, according to NFL reporter Aaron Wilson.

Kerbyson is heading to a franchise that has a hall-of-fame quarterback, an elite coach, and an offensive genius who can scout talent.

But the reason this is the best situation for him is due to what happened last year. Bill Belichick had to fire the Patriots offensive line coach after the unit was so awful that Tom Brady could not continue his MVP-caliber season throughout the year.

Of course, it wasn’t necessarily the line coach’s fault when you consider that the line was a patchwork line to begin with. And that’s where Kerbyson comes in.

Kerbyson is clearly a smart player who can pick up complex offenses, and Butch Jones’s offense is actually a fit for New England.

Consider that both offenses like to spread the field with multiple receivers but have their line block like they are always in the I-Formation. Just a few years ago, Kenbrell Thompkins thrived in the system for that reason.

The same thing could happen with Kerbyson, and given the situation that New England’s offensive line is in already, he will get a serious look and have a real chance at securing a roster spot by the time camp is over.
