Football Pro Day, Diamond DeShields returning to the Lady Tennessee Vols, and the basketball postseason lead the Volunteers news for Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2017.

Happy Tuesday to everybody. In the heart of February, there’s lots of Tennessee Vols news to bring you.

That comes despite the fact that there were no basketball games on Monday and none are scheduled for today.

On Rocky Top, there is still some football news to update you on, the Lady Vols have an injury issue we need to bring you, and the postseason hopes for the men are the topic of conversation in Knoxville.

Oh, and there still is baseball and softball happening.

So we have a lot to get to, but let’s start with the football news. It revolves around a change in the Pro Day date.

Tennessee Vols change date for Pro Day to Friday, March 31 – Ryan Callahan, GoVols247

Tennessee football’s Pro Day was originally schedule for Wednesday, March 29, but they have moved it to the last day of the month. This is the first significant Pro Day of Butch Jones’s tenure in Knoxville, as he has lots of guys looking to make it to the NFL this year for the first time.

"Tennessee’s NFL draft-eligible players will work out inside the Anderson Training Center beginning at 9 a.m. Eastern time. The pro day only will be open to NFL team and league representatives and credentialed media members."

Warlick optimistic about DeShields returning Thursday – Dan Fleser, Knoxville News Sentinel

The Tennessee Lady Vols have looked massively sloppy without Diamond DeShields, and while her return is questionable, Holly Warlick did express optimism about her availability for the next game. That is a match-up against the Florida Gators.

"Holly Warlick was clear that she was offering her opinion, not repeating a doctor’s prognosis. Disclaimer notwithstanding, the Tennessee women’s basketball coach’s is optimistic regarding the return of Lady Vols guard Diamond DeShields after a one-game absence.“Me personally, like I said, I would anticipate her playing on Thursday,” Warlick said Monday night on the “Lady Vol Illustrated” on the Vol Network. “But again I’m not the doctor. I’ll see how she’s moving around.”"

With four games left, a No. 51 RPI ranking, and a spot either just outside the Big Dance or barely in according to most experts, the Tennessee Vols men’s basketball team understands its NCAA Tournament standing. The Vols have a chance to build that resume over the next four games, but it will be an extremely tough outing.

"Even after all the ups and downs of this basketball season for Tennessee, the Volunteers have it all to play for in the final four games of the regular season.And they know it.Tennessee will be fighting for its NCAA tournament life this week against Vanderbilt at home on Wednesday and at South Carolina on Saturday before final-week games against LSU and Alabama and the Southeastern Conference tournament."

Tennessee Softball beats New Mexico State – UTSports

Ralph and Karen Weekly’s team did not lose a game in the Troy Cox Classic, as they finished the play with a dominating win over the New Mexico State Aggies Monday. With the win, they improve to 10-0 on the year.

"Taylor Rowland, Brooke Vines and Abby Lockman all drove in multiple runs as No. 15/14 Tennessee rolled to a 9-0 win over New Mexico State to close out the Troy Cox Classic in Las Cruces, N.M.Meghan Gregg also had another big day at the plate with three hits and a run scored as the Volunteers improved to 10-0 on the year and won their fourth straight game by run-rule.Caylan Arnold and Matty Moss combined to throw a three-hit shutout, the fifth shutout thrown by the Big Orange this season. The dynamic duo also combined to strike out nine Aggies in the game, five for Moss and four for Arnold."
