After losing Zach Azzanni to the NFL’s Chicago Bears, Tennessee football seems to have its wide receivers coach. The Volunteers are set to hire Kevin Beard.

The Vols athletic program already made huge news by announcing its new athletic director earlier in the day. But Tennessee football alone generated even more news in the afternoon with reports on the team’s new wide receivers coach.

According to former 247Sports writer John Brice, a deal to secure Beard as the Vols’ new assistant coach is just about done.

Brice announced the move on Twitter.

Peter Ariz of Canesinsight also reported in on Twitter.

Beard, 36, had just been hired as the wide receivers coach at Florida International to serve under Butch Davis.

He served as wide receivers coach for the Miami Hurricanes back in 2015. That was the year the Hurricanes fired Al Golden and named new Tennessee football offensive coordinator Larry Scott interim head coach for the rest of that year.

In 2014, he served as the assistant director of football operations at Miami.

He spent four years as an assistant coach at University High School in Davie, Fla. from 2010 to 2013. In 2016, he was an assistant for the Georgia Bulldogs.

As a Miami graduate who came from Plantation, Fla. and spent three years playing wide receiver in Arena Football, Beard has plenty of experience with the receiver position at big-name college football schools.

After all, he has served at Miami and Georgia.

At the same time, Beard brings another connection to Florida recruiting along with his new boss in offensive coordinator Larry Scott.
