The ESPN schedule has Tennessee football’s 2017 season-opener at night on Labor Day. The Volunteers will face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at 8 p.m.

This is really no surprise, but we now have official confirmation. Tennessee football’s opening game against Georgia Tech will be a primetime match-up on ESPN.

The network released its college football schedule on Thursday for the opening week, with the Vols set to face the Yellow Jackets on Monday, Sept. 4 at 8 p.m. E.T.

The game will take place at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, the second game of the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Classic.

Although the game is in Georgia Tech’s backyard, Tennessee football fans are all over the Atlanta area, as Knoxville is three hours away.

So don’t be surprise if Butch Jones’s team opens the season to a large swath of fans in orange that possibly even dominate the Georgia Tech fans in numbers.

That’s not a crazy thought.

The highlight of opening week, however, is another SEC vs ACC match-up in the same stadium two days before Tennessee and Georgia Tech.

The Florida State Seminoles will face the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday, Sept. 2 at 8 p.m. at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta in the first game of the Kickoff Classic.

Meanwhile, another huge SEC game earlier that afternoon will be the Michigan Wolverines facing the Florida Gators in the AdvoCare Classic in Arlington, Texas at 3:30 p.m. on ABC.

Outside of Saturday, ESPN will televise the Wisconsin Badgers hosting the Utah State Aggies that Friday night and the West Virginia Mountaineers against the Virginia Tech Hokies that Sunday night in Landover, Md.

The first ESPN game that week, though, will be the Ohio State Buckeyes against the Indiana Hoosiers in a Big Ten match-up Thursday night.

However, amidst all that, everything closes out with Tennessee and Georgia Tech.
