Tennessee football lost a 2019 commitment on Tuesday, as four-star in-state wide receiver Kendrell Scurry decommitted from the Volunteers.

Butch Jones still has plenty of time to put together the 2019 Tennessee football class, but it’s still never a good sign when you lose an in-state four-star. That’s exactly what happened to the Vols on Tuesday, thought.

Kendrell Scurry, a 6’3″ wide receiver from Independence High School in Thompsons Station, Tenn., had committed to the Vols last July.

However, he reopened his commitment on Tuesday. The good news is that Tennessee football is still in play, according to his Twitter account.

Here’s what Scurry posted.

Based to a report by Barton Simmons on GoVols247, Zach Azzanni’s departure appears to be a huge reason for Scurry’s decommitment.

Here’s a quote from him in that story.

"“When they offered, I felt like this was a big offer, this was one of the biggest offers I was going to get. When I committed, I didn’t know Coach Azzanni was going to leave. Coach Azzanni was a big part of my recruitment. He was a good coach. I really liked him, really liked the vibe he gave off.”"

Again, he hasn’t had a chance to spend much time with new wide receivers coach Kevin Beard yet, so Tennessee football still has a chance to bring him back in.

This would be much worse if he was a decommitment from the upcoming 2018 recruiting class given what happened last year, most notably elite in-state wide receiver Tee Higgins’ decommitment from the school.

But with Butch Jones and the Vols still having time to bring him back in, his decommitment is nothing to panic about just yet.

Tennessee football still has a great chance to keep him in the state.
