From a talent perspective, he could be Peyton Manning’s greatest receiver ever. But Reggie Wayne is certainly one of the top two guys to ever have a connection with the Tennessee football legend at the NFL level.

Wayne talked about Manning’s preparation and the rapport he had with his receivers in an NFL All Access video.

You can see the full video below.

The first part is pretty standard stuff and not shocking to anybody who has followed Peyton Manning’s career.

Everybody knows the guy was a preparation freak, and it’s what made him so great.

But there are two shocking revelations. The first is Wayne’s comment on how much Manning changed the play at the line.

We knew that Manning liked to audible, but to change it 85 to 90 percent of the time is amazing. And to go to the line sometimes with no play called, as Wayne said happened, is even more shocking. That shows how much he revolutionized the quarterback position.

The other was his story about “Perfect Fridays.”

Wayne talked about Manning’s freakish preparation on Friday, and apparently the Colts receivers went seven years without dropping a ball that day.

That is incredible, even for a franchise run by a perfectionist like Manning. But again, it speaks to his greatness, so it shouldn’t be shocking.

Manning and Wayne always clearly had a great connection, to the point that the two were able to reach the Super Bowl the year after the Colts released Marvin Harrison. And Wayne was one of the smartest players he ever played with. The connection between the two is missed everyday.
