Mark Richt Punished For Being the Good Guy

This season there has been a black cloud hovering over College Football. The last few years have seen their share of recruiting scandals, but this offseason

started with the Ohio State Scandal, then September saw the story break from Miami. And when we really didn’t think it could get any worse, the Penn State story shocked everyone inside and out of the College Football World.

Well, today, another story broke about a secondary violation at the University of Georgia. Apparently, Mark Richt (THE BAD GUY) was paying staff members who he didn’t believe were being compensated enough for their efforts, FROM HIS OWN POCKET (how dare he). Reportedly, Richt made payments of around $25,000 over the last two years to three coaches. Georgia self-reported the incident, which violated NCAA bylaw 11.3.2.2, regulating supplemental pay to staff. The Bulldogs only punishment is a letter from the University and more education on NCAA standards.

College Football needs more guys like Mark Richt. Guys like him remind us that there are still good people in College Football, heck, they remind us there are still good people in the world, and because of stupid, nit picky NCAA rules, he is punished for it. Congratulations NCAA, by punishing someone, you actually came of looking worse. I say we stop focusing on the puny little issues, and focus ,first, on punishing the real bad guys, second, on developing and adequate system for crowning a champion. There you go NCAA, get it done.
