Tennessee vs UCONN: Bullet Points
By Sam Scott
It’s game day, I don’t want to bog you down with a bunch of reading, so here’s your bullet points, quick tidbits to watch for during the game.
- Today is “We Back Pat” day supporting Pat Summitt. Ironically it comes against Summitt’s biggest rival at UT, the Huskies.
- The last time Tennessee played a defending national champion UCONN team, the Vols knocked the Huskies out of the 2000 NCAA tournament.
- Tennessee played a tight game with the eventual national champions led by Kemba Walker last year, but fell 72-61.
- Tennessee has played incredible defense that last couple of contests, only giving up an average of 67 points per game. The trouble has been scoring them.
- Tennessee is coming off an awful performance Wednesday at Georgia. The offense has been terrible, shooting 12% from 3 point, and turning the ball over 20 times.
- UCONN is not without their struggles, they’ve lost 3 of the last 5.
- If Cuonzo Martin hadn’t gone to Purdue, he was considering playing at UCONN for Jim Calhoun.
- For Tennessee, the key is to play their game, stiff defense. UCONN is not a high scoring team, so this one should be close.
