Recruiting Spotlight: Vols Add Patrick and Carr for 2013
By Gage Arnold
Recruiting Spotlight will take an in depth look at Vol commitments and provide insight into where the player fits into the team and the impact they will have.
In the last recruiting weekend before the 2012 National Signing Day for football commitments, the Volunteers didn’t add any to the current class, but instead added two new commitments for the 2013 class taking the total up to four commitments.
The first commitment of the weekend came from a local product, Clinton, Tennessee-native, Camion Patrick. The Lenior City wide receiver racked up 44 catches for 774 yards with 5 TD’s through the air and 4 on the ground. Patrick is a burner at 6’2” 200 lbs. and has been clocked at a 4.4 forty yard dash. He had to do it all for this team and at times play quarterback in a wildcat-type role and still carried his team wholly on his back. Camion has yet to be evaluated, but many predict him to a future 4-star prospect.
Also added was 6’6” 260 lb. Jason Carr who is slotted to play defensive end in UT’s new 3-4 defense.
Carr, who is out of White Station in Memphis, is even more heavily touted than Patrick as he already has offers from Southern Miss and Ole Miss among others and as well has been courted by Alabama and LSU.
This is a huge pickup for the Vols and getting a stud in-state player to commit this early in the game speaks measures to Derek Dooley and his staff.
