Lady Vols Top Vanderbilt 83-64

Tennessee defeated Vanderbilt for the second time this season with a 83-64 victory on Sunday. The Lady Vols jumped out in front early with a 10-3 run to open the game. The Lady Commodores battled back to tie the game at 16, but they wouldn’t get that close again. The Lady Vols closed the half with a 6-0 run for a 39-29 halftime lead.
The Lady Vols maintained the lead throughout the second half and eventually broke the game open in the final minutes, building a 19 point lead.
The 12th ranked Lady Vols were led in scoring by Meighan Simmons with 17 points. Ariel Massengale added 14 points, and Jasmine Jones scored 12 off the bench.
Vanderbilt was led by Jasmine Lister with 24 points.
Tennessee shot 55% for the game, while holding Vanderbilt to 44% shooting. The Lady Vols also out rebounded the Lady Commodores 37-28.
Tennessee improved to 11-1 in the SEC, and 20-5 overall. Vanderbilt falls to 16-9 overall and 6-6 in conference play.
The Lady Vols have now won three games in row. They’ll look to extend their winning streak when they stay at home to take on Auburn next Thursday, February 21st. Tennessee won the last meeting 75-66 behind Simmons’ game high 29 points.
Auburn broke an eight game losing streak on Sunday, with a 70-53 win over Alabama.
Tennessee and Auburn will face off at 7:00 PM EST on Thursday night.
