Tennessee Volunteers: Baseball & Softball Weekend Preview

Baseball

The Tennessee Volunteers will return to Lindsey Nelson Stadium this weekend for a three game set against the Alcorn State Braves. The series will kick off on Friday at 6:00 pm est. This will be the Vols first action since they participated in the USA Baseball Tournament in Cary, NC last weekend. Tennessee had their mid-week game against Belmont on Tuesday canceled because of inclement weather.

The Vols are currently 4-7 overall and will be looking for their first series win of the season. Alcorn State has not won a game on the road this season, the Braves are 2-12 overall.

Senior RHP Zack Godley will take the field on Friday night for the Vols. Godley is 0-1 on the season, with a 4.43 era. Freshmen LHP Drake Owenby will get the nod for the 12:00 pm est Saturday game. The Tennessee native is 1-0 this season with a 6.00 era. The series finale on Sunday at 12:00 pm est will be started by RHP Aaron Quillen. The Freshmen is 0-1 so far this year, with a 3.21 era.

Softball

The 8/10 Lady Vols have a big showdown scheduled for this weekend against the 1/2 Alabama Crimson Tide. The Lady Vols will kick off a three game set with the Crimson Tide on Friday at Lee Softball Stadium. According to UTSports.com all three games of the series are already sold out.

The Lady Vols are coming off an undefeated weekend at the Buccaneer Invitational in North Charleston, SC. The Lady Vols went 5-0 behind stellar pitching. The 19-3 Lady Vols will have their work cut out for them this weekend, Alabama will enter the series with a 22-1 record. The Crimson Tide begane the season on a 22 game winning streak , before suffering their first lost of the season on Wednesday, losing 8-4 to the Florida Gators in Tuscaloosa.

Notes:

The Crimson Tide have won the last three games in the series, and lead the all-time series 32-16.

Friday will be only the second home game the Lady Vols have played this season. They played Lipscomb at home on February 26th, winning 6-0.
