The 2012-13 SEC regular season champion Tennessee Volunteers will take on the Florida Gators today at noon, in the Lady Vol’s opening game in the SEC tournament.

The Lady Vols are the number one seeded team in the tournament.

Florida beat the Arkansas Razorbacks on Thursday 64-59 to advance in the tournament.

Tennessee won the only meeting between the two teams earlier this season. The Lady Vols beat the Gators 78-75, in an overtime win on January 13th in Gainesville. Meighan Simmons and Bashaara Graves each had one of their better games of the season against Florida. Simmons led the Vols in scoring with 27 points, and Graves had a double-double, with 17 points and 15 rebounds.

Simmons leads the Lady Vols in scoring on the season, at 17.7 points a game.

Holly Warlick has done a fantastic job in her first season as head coach. Warlick had spent the previous 27 seasons on the Tennessee staff as an assistant coach and in recent years as associate head coach. The transition from legendary coach Pat Summitt wasn’t something expected to be easy, but Warlick as made the change as seamlessly as one could expect.

Ninth ranked Tennessee (23-6, 14-2 SEC) tips off against Florida (18-13, 6-10 SEC) at 12:00 pm est today. If the Lady Vols win, they’ll take on the winner of the South Carolina-Texas A&M game, which will be played immediately after the Tennessee-Florida game.

The Lady Vols would then play at 4:00 pm est on Saturday. Tennessee won each of their games against Texas A&M and South Carolina earlier this season.
