Seeding for the 2013 women’s NCAA tournament was announced on Monday evening.
The SEC regular season champion Tennessee Volunteers (24-7) were placed in the Oklahoma City region as a number two seed. The Lady Vols will take on the 15th seeded Oral Roberts Golden Eagles.
First year head coach Holly Warlick will guide the Lady Vols to their 32nd appearance in the NCAA tournament. Tennessee is the only team to have never missed a tournament.
The Golden Eagles (18-12) made the NCAA tournament by virtue of winning the Southland women’s tournament over Sam Houston State.
The Lady Vols will host their first and second round games (should they advance) at Thompson-Boling arena.
If the Lady Vols make it past Oral Roberts, they would take on the winner of Syracuse and Creighton — the two teams play at 11:20 am est on Saturday.
In the tournament’s existence Tennessee has never lost in the first round and only lost once in the second round. The Lady Vols have never lost at home in the first two rounds.
Tennessee and Oral Roberts will tip off at 1:45 pm est on Saturday. The game can be seen on ESPN2.
The winner will advance to the second round, taking on the Syracuse-Creighton winner. That game will be played Monday night at 7:00 pm est on ESPN2.
