Member of the Tennessee Volunteers Baseball Team from 1993-96

R.A. Dickey might be one of the more surprising nominations on this list. When you consider that he became the first former Vol to win the Cy Young award last year it becomes clear that his name deserves to be in the conversation.

In 2012 Dickey became only the 4th former SEC pitcher to win the CY Young award (joining the AL winner last year David Price and former winners Cliff Lee and Brandon Webb). Dickey posted a 20-6 record with a 2.70 era and 230 strikeouts, the latter of which led the league.

During Dickey’s time in Knoxville he was a three-time first team All-American and two-time first team All-SEC selection. Dickey ended his time at Tennessee as the school’s all time wins and strikeouts leader.

Dickey was voted into the Tennessee baseball hall of fame in 2012.
