Each year the NFL draft has several draft prospects with perceived character issues, Darrington Sentimore is one of those players.
Sentimore was one of four Volunteers to declare early for the NFL draft. The Louisiana native was originally a four-star recruit that signed with the Alabama Crimson Tide. Sentimore redshirted his first year and played sparingly the next season. Sentimore then transferred to Gulf Coast Community College after being suspended indefinitely at Alabama due to breaking team rules.
After spending a year at Gulf Coast C.C. the young defensive lineman transferred to Tennessee. During Sentimore’s one season on Rocky Top he led the team in sacks (four) while starting 9 of 12 games.
While at Tennessee the former Vol was known more for his off-the-field behavior than his on-the-field performances. Sentimore was known to be very outspoken about opposing teams, quarterbacks and coaches, once saying of NC State quarterback Mike Glennon:
"I’ve played against some good quarterbacks, and I don’t think Glennon is as good as the other QB’s I’ve played against"
There’s no doubt that Sentimore is a talented defensive end, but his lack of focus could keep him from having a productive NFL career.
Where do we project Darrington Sentimore to be drafted?
Unfortunately we project Darrington Sentimore going undrafted.
We do think that Sentimore will be able to sign with a team as an undrafted free agent, but predicting who would sign him is nearly impossible.
Considering that Sentimore has experience in a 3-4 defense, it’s possible that he could be picked up by a team like the San Francisco 49ers, Pittsburgh Steelers or the New York Jets.
As with any undrafted free agent any team that signs Sentimore would be signing him strictly for added depth.
