Inevitably the first question that will be asked following Trae Golden’s departure from Tennessee will be “why”?
The next question will be “who will replace Golden”? You can get more insight on that here.
One name that has been mentioned already, by CBS college basketball insider Jon Rothstein, is Darius Thompson.
Thompson is a 6’4″ freshmen that has a high basketball IQ. Thompson could provide the Vols with the consistency at the point guard position that they’ve been missing in recent years. Golden was key to the Volunteer’s success last season, but proved to be incredibly inconsistent at times.
Thompson, a native of Murfreesboro, TN, signed with Tennessee on April 17, after originally committing to Vanderbilt.
In addition to Thompson’s offers from Tennessee and Vanderbilt he also held offers Alabama and Auburn.
