USA Today recently released information that ranks 228 colleges based on their athletic department’s revenue in 2012.
The Tennessee Volunteers ranked 12th in total revenue, bringing in $102,884,286.00.
Tennessee had total expenditures equaling $101,292,015.00. The Volunteers also have a subsidy of $1,000,000.00.
The Vols were the sixth SEC school on the list. Check out where all the SEC schools ranked and the total revenue at each school.
4. Alabama — $124,899,945.00
5. Florida — $120,772,106.00
6. Texas A&M — $119,702,222.00
7. LSU — $114,787,786.00
10. Auburn — 105,951,251.00
12. Tennessee — $102,884,286.00
14. Arkansas — $99,757,482.00
18. Georgia — $91,670,613.00

51. Ole Miss — $51,858,993

Vanderbilt isn’t listed because private institutions don’t disclose financial information.
There weren’t many surprises on the list, especially with Texas coming in at first. Most of the schools near the top of the list are considered “football schools”, which typically bring in the most revenue.
The SEC had the most schools in the top 25 with ten.
If anything this list will bring up, yet again, the debate about players (not) being paid. Schools are bringing in a ton of money because of amateur athletes.
Then again that’s a debate for another time and place.
