When the 2013 All-SEC teams were recently announced, the Vols found themselves with only one representative.
Tennessee outfielder Vincent Jackson was named to the All-Freshmen team, capping a solid debut season for the native of McDonough, GA.
Jackson, who also pitched 0.2 innings this season, started 38 of the 43 games in which he played. He hit .290 on the year with two home runs and 24 RBI’s. He also stole five bases on six attempts.
On top of his success at the plate, Jackson also proved to be a reliable outfielder. He committed only three errors on the year, accounting for a .976 fielding percentage. He also added three outfield assists.
Jackson was actually selected by the New York Yankees in the 23rd round of the 2012 MLB draft, but chose to play for the Vols instead. He was highly regarded coming out of high school, with some publications listing him as one of the top 40 outfielders available in the 2012 draft.
Vincent Jackson will be part of a solid core that is returning for Dave Serrano and the Vols next season. They’ll definitely be hoping to improve on their 2012 season.
