The Vols have added another commitment for the class of 2014. JUCO LB/DE Chris Weatherd from Trinity Valley C.C. has given his verbal over the phone to Defensive Coordinator John Jancek and has plans on meeting with Coach Tommy Thigpen on Friday. He has been speaking with the UT coaching staff since Thursday of last week and Coach Jancek has been his main recruiter.
I spent some time speaking to Chris and he informed me he does indeed have an offer and has committed to playing for the Volunteers. He is excited about playing in front of the Big Orange fans and hopes to visit soon. He plans on enrolling in January 2014 after he graduates in December. When asked if he is being recruited as a Linebacker or Defensive End, he replied, “As of right now (they are) recruiting me as a LB. I love both positions.” Weatherd has terrific measurables. At 6’4″ and 225 lbs, he has great size for a LB and room for growth if he is ever asked to play DE.
UT now has 14 total commitments for the 2014 season, with several more targets looking to announce throughout the summer. Coach Butch Jones and staff have the 2014 class in the top 5 according to many recruiting sites. As more players continue to choose their collegiate destinations between now and signing day, the Vols are seemingly in great shape with many of them.
