Derek Dooley typically isn’t discussed on this site, and for good reason.

Dooley’s time at Tennessee is in the past, the Vols have entered a new era and there’s excitement on Rocky Top.

With that said, Derek Dooley recently appeared on the “Elf and Slater Show” on 105.3 in Dallas and provided a few quotes, in reference to Dez Bryant, that just couldn’t be passed up.

"‘Go down there about 12 yards and do that thing you do. I can’t really understand it or describe it,but it works and you’re good at it.’"

I’m not sure if that’s a joke or not. If it is a joke, then Dooley’s failed attempt at humor leaves him looking more like an ignorant sideshow, then a wide receivers coach for the Dallas Cowboys.

It’s probably best not to say “I don’t understand it”, when referencing your wide receiver and his route running/technique. I’ve never been a coach, and I never will be, but I’m pretty sure that’s not the best approach.

This next quote is a bit more cryptic, I’m not sure if he’s referring to mistakes at Tennessee, or his current job. Given his lack of time on the job with the Cowboys, he could be referring to his time with the Vols.

"As long as he [Dez Bryant] knows that that’s what my interest is and again that I care about him as a human being — we lost sight of that sometimes — I think that trust is going to be there."

Again, I’m not sure if Dooley is referring to losing sight of caring about folks at Tennessee, or if he’s talking about his time in Dallas.

It certainly doesn’t seem like he’s been in Dallas long enough to lose sight of anything.

Judging from first hand accounts that former Vols quarterback Erik Ainge has described on his morning show, Dooley definitely lacked in the “respect for others” department.

There are definitely others who also feel he lost sight of caring for people while in Knoxville. If that’s what he’s talking about, then he should be much more direct.

Vol nation deserves it after all they’ve went through the past past three years.
