On Friday night running back Justus Pickett, a would-be rising junior at the University of Maryland, announced his intentions to transfer to Tennessee, via Twitter.
Apparently Pickett is transferring in order to be closer to his Charlotte, NC home, for family reasons.
According to Google Maps, Knoxville is 3 hours and 53 minutes away from Charlotte, while College Park, MD is 7 hours and 32 minutes away from Charlotte.
Pickett, who hasn’t redshirted while at Maryland, could seek a waiver from the NCAA in order to play this season, but that’s unlikely to happen for the Vols newest player.
Coming out of high school Pickett was rated as a three-star running back (247Sports) and had offers from Duke, Illinois, Stanford and West Virginia, among others.
Pickett, 5’10″/185 lbs, has ran for 416 yards on 143 attempts in his career with four touchdowns. He also has contributed 187 receiving yards on 29 receptions, to go along with two touchdowns.
