The Tennessee Volunteers extended a scholarship offer to one of the top players in the nation on Friday, defensive tackle Matt Elam.

Elam is a 6’6″/350 lb 2014 recruit that 247Sports rates as a five-star prospect. He’s also rated as the number one player in the state of Kentucky and the 10th overall player in the nation.

The Elizabethtown, KY native has plenty of schools from which he can choose. According to 247Sports he has offers from, and is considering, Alabama, Kentucky, Louisville, Notre Dame and Ohio State among many others.

22 recruiting analysts have made Crystal Ball predictions on the 247Sports network. 68 percent of those predictions have Elam going to Kentucky, while the other 32 percent are predicting Alabama.

If the Vols were somehow able to land Elam, it would be a huge (literally) get for Butch Jones and his staff.

Tennessee needs to add some size and depth to their defensive line and Matt Elam would do just that.
