The battle for playing time among the Buffalo Bills’ wide receivers group may be one of the most crowded battles in the NFL.
Buffalo has a pretty clear depth chart from the number one receiver to the number four receiver — Stevie Johnson, Robert Woods, T.J. Graham and Marquise Goodwin.
After that, it’s anyone’s guess.
Judging by playing time alone, it’s looking like undrafted free agent Da’Rick Rogers may be on the outside looking in.
There are currently four plays vying for the Bills’ fifth receiver spot — Marcus Easley, Brad Smith, Chris Hogan and Rogers.
Rogers played the least amount of offensive snaps among the wide receivers in the Bills’ pre-season game against the Minnesota Vikings, playing only ten snaps.
Mike Rodak, who covers the AFC East for ESPN.com, seems to think that Rogers’ chances at making the Bills’ 53 man roster are “slim”
"Rodak: Unless the Bills want to hold a roster spot for Rogers based off his potential, his chances to crack the 53-man roster look slim"
Rodak believes that the fifth receiver spot will come down to Easley or Hogan, with Smith staying on as a “core special teams player”.
While you always hope to make a team, being released might be in Rogers’ best interest.
I believed coming to the draft that Rogers was one of the most gifted receivers available. Had it not been for his off-the-field issues (being kicked out of Tennessee) he would’ve likely been a first or second round pick.
With that being said, making a team as the fifth wide receiver isn’t going to give Rogers much of a chance to make an impact as a rookie.
I believe there are several other teams that could benefit from Rogers’ services and likewise would be a better situation for the former Tennessee Volunteer.
Here are the top five teams that I believe would be a good fit for Rogers.
