LB Chris Weatherd from Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, TX has been a fan favorite amongst University of Tennessee fans since he committed to the Vols back in May. A new offer from in-state Texas A&M has the UT fanbase a little worried about his commitment now. Weatherd is the top ranked JUCO LB in the country and his recruitment has picked up over the past several months.
The significance of Texas A&M’s offer is distance and the allure of an in-state Texas school. A&M, located in College Station and approximately 3 hours from Weatherd’s home, is a program on the rise since it joined the Southeastern Conference last year. Head Coach Kevin Sumlin has done a tremendous job recruiting and his Aggies are ranked in the top-10 in the Coaches and AP preseason polls.
Chris insists he is still all Vol, but family approval is a big deal for most recruits. “Just kind of waiting on my mom to come with me on my official visit.” He said. His official visit is scheduled for the weekend on September 7th when the Vols take on Western Kentucky.
