Apparently Randy Moss doesn’t believe Cordarrelle Patterson, or any rookie, is worthy of wearing the number 84 that Moss wore during his tenure with the Minnesota Vikings.

The comments (H/T to For The Win) were made by Moss on Fox, where he’s now a studio analyst.

Apparently they’ll give those jobs to just anyone now,  but I digress.

Here’s what Moss had to say about Patterson and the number 84.

"That’s disrespectful to give a rookie my number. I don’t really believe in numbers but from a professional standpoint, I did make that number. He hasn’t proven anything yet but hey what can I say? I’m just Randy Moss sitting here in the studio."

I’m not sure I follow Randy’s anger on this one.

The jersey hasn’t been retired, so it’s free to be worn by whoever wishes to wear it. Plus Patterson chose to wear the number because of his admiration for Moss.

"Randy Moss was my role model growing up since I was little. I wore 84 in high school, and I was purple and gold. So, I looked up to Randy Moss the whole time. – Cordarrelle Patterson on ESPN Radio in Minneapolis (May, 2013)"

This isn’t the first time that a rookie has wore the number 84 after Moss.

In 2007 Vikings fifth round pick Aundrae Allison was issued 84 by the Vikings.

Moss, who was playing with the Patriots then, didn’t seem to take any issues with a rookie wearing his number.

Perhaps he’s intimidated by the thought of Patterson potentially making folks forget about Moss in that purple and gold 84?
