"Coach Butch Jones was quick to emphasize that a bye week doesn’t equal an off week for Tennessee over the next few days. The Vols will get their rest later in the week and over the weekend, but for a team still learning Jones’ system and mastering basic technique, the coaching staff views this as a work week.“There are so many goals that we want to accomplish this week,” said Jones, who just missed his first signature win at UT in a 34-31 overtime loss to Georgia. “First of all is individual improvement, everybody in our football program getting better – team improvement, our execution, our special teams, offense and defense and getting back healthy."

"The Lady Vol basketball team starts their second season under head coach Holly Warlick next month. Before play even starts, senior Meighan Simmons and sophomore Bashaara Graves are on the list of preseason candidates for the Wade Trophy. Here is more from the University of Tennessee:The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association released its 2013-14 “Wade Watch” list of candidates on Tuesday, and Tennessee’s Meighan Simmons and Bashaara Graves are included in that preseason collection of the nation’s top 25 players."

From Bleacher Report

"The Tennessee Vols had to replace virtually their entire passing offense and revamp their historically inept defense following Derek Dooley’s final season. Now, sitting at 3-3 midway through 2013, the Vols are exactly where most figured they’d be under first-year coach Butch Jones. They’ve lost to Oregon, Florida and Georgia. They’ve beaten Austin Peay, Western Kentucky and South Alabama.UT nearly got upset by the Jaguars after a second-half letdown and nearly upset the No. 6 Bulldogs with a second-half surge."

"Nearly 72 hours since a moment most football players dread, Pig Howard was back on the field operating as if nothing had happened. The Tennessee receiver appears to have moved past the one bad play he had in an otherwise excellent performance in the Volunteers’ overtime loss to Georgia last Saturday. The sophomore tallied 116 yards of offense on 11 touches against the Bulldogs, but he was on the wrong end of the game’s key play when the football slipped out of his hand as he made a dive and reached for the end zone in Tennessee’s overtime possession.“I haven’t really been thinking about it,” he said Tuesday evening after the Vols’ first practice of this week’s open date. “After the game, I kind of sat there and thought about it over and over, but I don’t think I would have done anything differently. I was just trying to make a play for my team.“Things happen, and there’s nothing I can do about it now.”"
