The Vols have a strange trend going right now.
It seems like every time they lose, they pick up a commit.
After Tennessee lost to Missouri they picked up commitments from Evan and Elliott Berry.
The Vols also picked up two commitments after their loss to Auburn, when Dimarya Mixon and Cory Thomas committed to play at Tennessee.
The trend continued on Sunday as the Vols picked up two more commitments after their loss to Vanderbilt on Sunday night.
247Sports composite four-star ILB Jakob Johnson (Jacksonville, FL), who is originally from Germany. committed to play at Tennessee.
Johnson, 6’3″/236, also has offers from Idaho, Tulane, UCF and Wisconsin. Linebacker is a huge position of need for the Vols and Johnson’s commitment brings the number of linebackers in UT’s 2014 class to six.
Joining Johnson today was three-star defensive tackle Owen Williams.
Williams, a JuCo DT, is from El Dorado, KS.
The 6’1″/280 lb DT originally committed to Texas Tech on October 23.
Defensive tackle is also a huge need for the Vols (as is virtually every position). Williams should provide the Vols with immediate help.
Tennessee now has 33 2014 commits.
Butch Jones had previously said they would sign 30 players in this class.
The Vols are also still very much in the mix for DT Charles Moseley and WR Josh Malone.
I’m not sure how the Volunteers will make room for all these players, while adhering to NCAA guidelines, but Butch Jones seems to have a plan in place.
I guess we’ll all find out in February.
